FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- In what has become a heated rivalry game between two WCAC basketball powerhouses, St. John's inched past Paul VI, 70-69, in over time on Monday night.

The Cadets recovered from an 11 point deficit at halftime and overcame Paul VI's aggressive press defense to win the game with just over five seconds left in overtime.

"I think it started to pay off for us once we got a little more under control just dealing with the strength and athleticism and the quality of that press. It's as good as we've ever faced. Our guards -- that's the strength of our team -- if they're able to turn our guards over in our back court like that, then they deserve everything they get right there," said St. John's head coach Jonathan Scribner.

Lindsay Allen led Paul VI in scoring with 27 points and sank the game-wining basket. Tori Oliver was close behind with 23 points on the night.

"We knew it was a big game. We knew we were undefeated against them for the past three years here, but we knew that they were a better team this year ... we knew were going to have to step our game up in order to beat them and we did that tonight," said Allen.

The Cadets are now 21-1 overall while the Panthers stand 23-1. This was Paul VI's first loss of the season.
