WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA) -- A Woodbridge man was arrested the day after reportedly stealing a woman's cell phone, assaulting her and then trying to choke her.

According to police, they responded to a home in the 12500 block of Gordon Boulevard on Monday at approximately 8:07 p.m. for the report of a disorderly subject. A woman there told them that she got into an argument with Marcus Whitehead at his home. Then, he reportedly took her phone and assaulted her. During the assault he tried to choke her but she was able to get away from him. She called police from a neighbor's house.

Meanwhile, Whitehead fled the scene. Police obtained warrants against him and later found him on Tuesday near his home. He was arrested and charged with attempted strangulation, robbery, assault & battery and grand larceny from a person.

He is being held without bond and has a court date on March 8.

Police say the woman suffered minor injuries.
