RISING SUN, Md. (WUSA) -- The Maryland State Fire Marshal says a man intentionally set his house on fire on Tuesday night and got hurt in the process. Charges are now pending against 47-year-old Marco Adrin Gonzalez-Hernandez.

According to the fire marshal, deputies had gone to a home in the 600 block of Pearl Street for a domestic complaint and found a juvenile leaving the home. The juvenile told them that Gonzalez-Hernandez had threatened to burn the house and possible harm himself. Deputies went to enter the home but saw heavy fire through the front window so they retreated and tried to enter through the back of the house.

Authorities say the deputies then spotted Gonzalez-Hernandez leaving out of the back door. He was then detained.

The fire marshal says there was a domestic assault in the home in addition to the fire.

Gonzalez-Hernandez was treated for smoke inhalation before being flown to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He is currently listed in "stable condition," says the fire marshal.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to control the fire, which started in the living room. The fire left more than $50,000 worth of damage.
