WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A judge ruled a man accused of killing his 91-year-old wife in her Georgetown home competent to stand trial, D.C. court records show.

Albrecht Muth is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Viola Drath in August 2011.  Drath, a German journalist, was found strangled and beaten.

Muth has denied he killed his wife.

In February, Muth was taken to St. Elizabeth's, a psychiatric hospital, for a competency screening after a doctor said he was delusional and hallucinated. Muth was hospitalized for mental illness and court records show he was scheduled for a mental observation hearing on Wednesday. A release order was filed on Thursday.

Court records show that a trial readiness hearing for Muth is scheduled for February 21, 2013 and a jury trial is scheduled for March 25, 2013.
