MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA) -- Prince William County School officials say there is no credible threat at Osborne Park High School after rumors were spotted on Twitter on Tuesday.

According to Phil Kravits with Prince William County Schools, after a student overheard an argument at the school on Tuesday rumors started to spread. Police were notified and they investigated the incident. Officials later determined there was "no credible threat of violence," says Kravits.

Law enforcement, however, did provide addition police presence at the school as a precaution. A police spokesperson says the students involved in the initial incident were disciplined and officers are investigating the incident as a narcotics investigation. The spokesperson says the incident appears to have been blown out of proportion.

The following statement from Principal Neil Beech was posted to the school's website:

I am aware of rumors that circulated on twitter yesterday afternoon and evening, raising concern about safety today. Although I believe the rumors are based on misinformation surrounding an argument between students, we take them very seriously and passed the concerns on the Prince William County Police. We are taking every possible measure to ensure the safety of our students and are confident that it is safe for students to attend school today at Osbourn Park High School.
Prince William County Police are investigating student and parent concerns surrounding recent Twitter activity and will ensure that we have a police presence in the building today.
As always, thank you for your support for our school.

Neil Beech,
