ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - The Arlington County Board is expected to decide whether the county will approve the nation's first all-electric taxi fleet.

The board is expected to vote Monday after putting off a decision on the proposal from Electric Vehicle Taxicab Co. The company wants to launch a fleet of 40 cars with iPads to allow riders to browse the Internet and pay with credit cards.

The Arlington Transportation Committee voted against bringing the all-electric fleet to the county. Concerns center on how long the batteries would last during peak hours and long trips, leaving passengers stranded.

The county's staff is urging the board to approve the fleet, saying the battery technology is adequate. The company says it would call other taxi companies for passengers if it doesn't have a fully charged car.
