WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -- Things were running smoothly on Monday at the south entrance to the Dupont Circle Metro station: All three escalators working just fine.

But that hasn't always been the case since the new escalators were put into service following an eight-month, twelve million dollar overhaul of Dupont's south entrance.

According to Metro, there have been 20 escalator outages since the south entrance re-opened back on October 20. Nine outages were the result of an escalator's safety switch being activated by riders; 8 were for routine adjustments to the escalators; and three were to allow for replacement parts to be installed.

The time of the outages varied from anywhere between 10 minutes and, in once case, several days.
