LAUREL, Md. (WUSA) -- A supermarket security guard is recovering in a local hospital after being shot inside the store Thursday night.
Corporal Larry Johnson, spokesman for the Prince George's County Police Department, says officers were called to the Bottom Dollar Food Store in the 12600 block of Laurel Bowie Road, Laurel, for a report of a shooting. Once officers arrived at the scene they discovered a security guard inside the store suffering from a gunshot wound.
Cpl. Johnson says the guard was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, however he is expected to recover.
The initial investigation indicates two armed masked men entered the store and approached the security guard. At some point there was a confrontation, and the security guards weapon was taken from him by the two assailants. That's when one of the suspects shot the security guard.
At this time it is not clear whether or not the guard was shot with his own gun.
According to Corporal Johnson, the suspects fled the store in a light blue SUV. They are both believed to be approximately 5' 9" tall.
Johnson confirms there were about a dozen customers inside the store at the time of the shooting. No one else was hurt.
