Teenager Olijawon Griffin Stabbed to Death at Woodley Park Metro, Remembered by Friends

OLNEY, Md. (WUSA)-- Loved ones of Olijawon Griffin can't make sense of the brutal stabbing attack that killed him. 

The 18-year old was a Sherwood High graduate. His friends say he was a popular student, and a football team stand out. According to authorities, Griffin was robbed in Adams Morgan early Saturday before following the suspects to the Woodley Park metro station, where a fight ensued. Sources tell 9news, a robbery that turned deadly was over a phone and a jacket.

Police arrested nine people in connection to the incident, including another teenager charged with murder.

Handfuls of family friends and friends of Griffin gathered outside his Olney home Saturday night to share their memories of him. 

His neighbor and mentor Jacob Kapepula was distraught to hear of the news. 

Kapepula said, "I'm at a loss for words."

Griffin had recently started a new job at the National Institutes of Health working in the recycling department, according to a friend who worked with him. He was described as a hard worker with a motivating spirit. As Kapepula put it, " A good kid."

Funeral plans have not yet been announced, but his friends say a vigil in his memory is pending.
