HALIFAX, Va. (WUSA) - A 1-year-old girl and her mother were found at a family member's house in Lanham, Md. at approximately 6:30 a.m. Friday after an Amber Alert was activated, say Halifax County, Va. police. Alexis Rose Carwile is "fine and in protective care," according to police. Her mother, Jennifer Dawn Carwile, is in custody of the Prince George's County police.

Alexis Carwile's father, Eric Eugene Black, was apprehended by Virginia State Police earlier on Friday morning and is one of the suspects in Alexis Rose Carwile's abduction from Halifax County, Va., according to police. Halifax County Sheriff's Office say Chesterfield County, Va. police received a 911 call from a UPS driver about a vehicle (a burgundy 1985 Nissan Maxima) with the license plate reported in the Amber Alert driving southbound on Interstate 95 at approximately 4:11 a.m. The UPS driver continued to follow the car until troopers could stop the car.

Police say Black was found in Chesterfield County, Va. around 4:34 Friday morning.

Halifax County authorities say investigators believe Eric Black dropped off Jennifer Carwile and Alexis with relatives in Prince George's County then headed back south. He was later caught in Chesterfield County. Jennifer and Alexis Carwile were found at a family member's house in Prince George's County.

Police believe the incident started Thursday when Black and Carwile were issued a court order in Campbell County, Va. to give Alexis to child protective services. Authorities say the parents rushed to relatives' home where Alexis was being cared for in Halifax County. They made it there before social services to could get arrive to take her into custody. Once CPS arrived, the family members reported the couple already had her at approximately 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities then started investigating and began the process of issuing an Amber Alert.

Black and Carwile will likely be charged with abduction. Black is being held at Riverside Regional Jail in Hopewell, Va. without bond, say Halifax County Sheriff's Office authorities.

Virginia court records show that Carwile has mostly traffic offenses, including a hit and run crash. Most of the serious offenses happened more than a decade ago, and she did spend some time in jail for the crash. Black has a lengthy record, but he was not prosecuted on all of the charges. According to court records, Black did serve some time in jail for obstruction of justice and grand larceny.
