WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The 113th Congress will have at least 19 female senators, a record number of women in Congress. Currently there are 17 women.

Wednesday morning, Kate Sheppard from Mother Jones gave us her take on Tuesday night's election results.

All six Democratic women up for re-election won. Five Republican female candidates lost. We asked Sheppard: does the GOP have to take stock after this election when it comes to women? We also asked her about the interesting split of women voters in the Presidential election. Single women went for the President. Married women chose Mitt Romney. Does that says anything about the issues women are voting on? The social issues traditionally felt as women's issues verses the economic issues, that appealed to a lot of Romney voters?
