WARRENTON, Va. (WUSA) --Fauquier County officials say they are asking residents to inform officials of property and home damage caused by Superstrom Sandy.
The data collected by the Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management is part of the initial damage assessment to be submitted to the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM).
After VDEM collects data from all affected localities it will submit a request to the President for a major disaster declaration through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
If a major disaster is declared, county residents will be eligible for federal assistance.
