ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA) --  The FBI, Fairfax County Police and the county's bomb squad searched the apartment Friday of the man charged in Thursday's Ballston Molotov cocktail incident, the FBI confirmed.

Twenty-nine-year-old Leon A. Traille, Jr., is charged with arson after he allegedly threw a Molotov Cocktail in the Ballston Common Mall Thursday.

A brown glass bottle with matches was thrown into the food court and produced a flame, according to an affidavit, but the fire was extinguished. The man who allegedly threw the bottle went to the second floor skyway and dropped a bag with three more Molotov cocktails before fleeing.

After closing the mall and three hours of searching the nearby area, police located and took custody of Traille, who was then questioned by the FBI, ATF and police.

On Friday, agents were at the Woodbury Park Apartments in the 2200 block of 11th Street N. near Clarendon, beginning a search at about 4 p.m., according to an FBI spokesperson.

A bomb technician examined the gray and red backpack belonging to the suspect. Police later found three more similar devices inside the mall.

Traille, who has no known address, was initially charged by Arlington County Police, but authorities say the charges are now dropped because of the federal investigation. A criminal complaint released on Friday alleges that witnesses saw a man throw the device and gave a description of the man to officers. A man with that description was allegedly seen on video surveillance as he left the mall.

The arson charge carries between 5 and 20 years in prison, if he is convicted. Traille appeared briefly in federal court in Alexandria Friday afternoon, and was unresponsive to the judge's questions. His next court appearance is set for Monday afternoon.
