WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA)  - He doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon.

Sarkis Tatigian, 89, has built up a lifetime career serving the country.

"It's a feeling you're accomplishing something, worth something, part of something," he said.

In 1942, Tatigian started as a junior radio aircraft inspector in Philadelphia. Now, he oversees billions of dollars as the Associate Director of Small Business at Naval Sea Systems Command.

"Every day I'm amazed when he gets in," said colleague Susan Ford. "I commend him for what he does."

A celebration took place Wednesday at the Washington Navy Yard recognizing the milestone.

"This is what Dad's been working towards," said daughter Linda Tatigian-Mckevitt. "One year leads into the next and before you know, it's 70 years. It's remarkable."

Tatigian added with a smile: "I would say it's unusual, not something to be repeated."
