Actor Gary Sinise Named Honorary Chief Petty Officer

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -  Actor Gary Sinise, a longtime champion of the military, known for his signature portrayal of "Lt. Dan" in the theatrical film "Forrest Gump," was honored Friday at the U.S. Navy Memorial.

Sinise, who stars in the CBS drama "CSI: NY" and travels frequently to visit U.S. troops around the world, was named an honorary chief petty officer during Friday's ceremony.

Sinise, who plays guitar in his "Lt. Dan Band," received the honor from Fleet Master Chief(AW/NAC) Michael D. Stevens on behalf of Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy(MCPON)(SS/SW) Rick D. West.

Sinise is well-known for his support of all branches of the military.
