WINCHESTER, Va. (WUSA) -- Winchester fire officials say a 4-year-old child and 6-year-old child died after a Thursday night house fire in Winchester, Virginia.
Winchester fire officials say firefighters responded to a blaze that broke out in a single family home located at 210 Summit Avenue at approximately 9:36 Thursday night. They found heavy smoke and heat coming from the second floor, say fire officials.
Bystanders told firefighters that people were trapped inside. Rescuers were able to save a man from the second floor window using a ladder.
One adult was transported to Winchester Medical Center for smoke inhalation,another adult was transported to Winchester Medical Center for burns and then to a D.C. area hospital burn unit. A third adult was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation, say firefighters.
Firefighters attacked the fire on the second level and searched the area. They found a 4-year-old child and a 6-year-old child, who had succumbed to their injuries.
The Red Cross assist the family.
Damage from the fire is estimated at $35,000.
The incident is under investigation.
