BEALETON, Va. (WUSA) - A rabid cat bit at least six people in the last three weeks in Bealeton, say Virginia Department Of Health officials. The cat frequented the area of Marsh Road and Balls Mills Road. The people are undergoing treatment, say officials.

The young adult cat is described as an orange tabby weighing about five pounds. Lab results confirmed the cat had rabies.

Fauquier County Environmental Health is asking anyone who knows of any suspected contact between this cat and any person or domestic animal within the last three weeks, to call 540-347-6363, and press 0 when prompted.

Officials report that Fauquier County is using a reverse 911 call to households within the affected area to notify them about the incidents.
