WASHINGTON,D.C. (WUSA) - We want to tell you about a great honor for two members of the 9 News Now team. Montgomery County's Keeping It Safe Coalition gave reporter Andrea McCarren and photographer Dave Satchell a Community Service Award for their recent series of reports on underage drinking.

Dave and Andrea worked closely with Montgomery County Police to bring our community a riveting glimpse of this important issue.

As Officer Bill Morrison said when introducing the 9 News Now staff members, "When Andrea called me, she said WUSA wanted to take an active approach to stopping the problem. She said, 'We're tired of reporting all the tragedies associated with underage drinking.' We sat down with her and we came up with a couple of suggestions. We thought we had a little small idea maybe that would possibly work. We had no idea that it would blossom to what it has."

Also honored with awards today were Montgomery County Police Chief Thomas Manger and Whitman High School Principal Dr. Alan Goodwin.
