WASHINGTON (WKYC) -- The U.S. consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a voluntary recall of about 217,000 Calphalon Contemporary Cutlery Knife Sets because of a defect that poses a laceration hazard.

The tops of the 8-inch bread knife in the set can protrude through the bottom of the slot of the wooden block holder, posing a risk of injury.

Calphalon has received one report of someone who cut their finger so far.

The recall involves all 17- and 21-piece Contemporary Cutlery Knife Sets with model numbers KNS17C and KNS21C manufactured from August 2007 through May 1, 2011.

There are no model or date markings on the wood block, but all sets have the Calphalon logo stamped in black on the front. Sets with a three-digit number on the underside are not included in the recall.

If impacted by this recall, contact Calphalon to get a free repair kit by calling (800) 766-5652.

For more information, call Calphalon at (800) 809-7267 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. eastern time or online at
