WASHINGTON (AP/WUSA) -- Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 2.17 million vehicles in the United States to address accelerator pedals that could become entrapped in floor mats or jammed in carpeting.
More than half of the vehicles are being added to a massive 2009 recall that fixed gas pedals getting trapped in the floor mat.
Toyota has now recalled more than 14 million vehicles globally over safety problems since 2009. U.S. regulators said earlier this month that electronic flaws were not to blame for reports of sudden, unintended acceleration.
The recall includes:
*2003-2009 Toyota 4-Runner SUVs
*2006-2010 Toyota Rav-4 compact SUVs
*2008-2011 Lexus 570s
*2004-2006 Toyota Highlander SUV and hybrid models
The Highlander is being recalled to replace the drivers side floor mat covering.
Darcars Vice President Tammy Darvish says if you have one of these vehicles, call your dealer. Toyota will pay for the inspection and modification of your gas pedal, floor mats, or carpeting - if it's included in this recall.
The company has posted detailed information at www.toyota.com/recall or www.lexus.com/recall. Owners can call Toyota at (800) 331-4331 or Lexus at (800) 255-3987.
