BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland health officials say they have identified a third patient in the state who developed meningitis after receiving a steroid injection in September.
The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene announced Saturday that it had confirmed the third case. But the agency says no specific information will be released about the patient.
Two other Maryland cases had been previously confirmed. One patient has died.
Nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the outbreak has spread to more than 60 people across nine states. The outbreak has been linked to a steroid produced by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts. The steroid has been recalled.
