DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Anne Arundel County Animal Control are looking for the person who shot a cat with an arrow in the Davidsonville area last week.

Police say two-year-old cat, "Xena," lived in the 3000 block of Riva Road. On Wednesday, June 12, Xena's owner found a two foot long arrow in Xena's left shoulder on the owner's property, say police. Police do not know if Xena was actually shot with the arrow in the yard or at another location.

Police say Xena was scared and was hard to catch but she was finally taken into custody by animal control staff at noon on Friday, June 14. The owner surrendered custody of Xena, hoping that she could be saved and find a new home.

Animal control officers contacted Rude Ranch Animal Rescue in Harwood, Md. for help treating and placing Xena in a new home if she recovers, say police. Rude Ranch Animal Rescue arranged veterinary care of Xena, who was taken to  Belair Veterinary Hospital in Bowie, Md. Police tell us that Xena was released on Saturday June 15, and is continuing to recover at Rude Ranch Animal Rescue.

Police and animal control officers are asking anyone with information that may lead to finding the shooter to contact Anne Arundel County Animal Control at 410-222-8900 or the Anne Arundel County Police Department at 410-222-8610.
