WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Know anyone who just got a brand-new, adorable kitten over the weekend? If so, there could be a thousand bucks in it for you, plus some good karma.

On Sunday, workers at the Washington Humane Society noticed the cute, gray and white kitten was gone.

Scott Giacoppo, the Washington Humane Society's Vice President of External Affairs said, "I have absolutely no idea what goes through people's minds sometimes. This was just a young kitten who had just come in to us and was looking for a new home."

The thief or thieves may have left with Callista, but Giacoppo says they left without a lot, "The vaccinations, sterilization and all that, and then to talk with the family so they fully understand the cats' needs."

Giacoppo says all of that is included in the normal adoption process, which costs $85 and can take only 20 minutes. He also says they consider each dog and cat part of their extended family, as well as their new adopted parents, and are always available to help with issues that may arise down the road, "We're not in it for the money, we barely break even with the adoption fees and the medical package and so forth."

In fact, Giacoppo says they believe so strongly in the vaccinations and sterilization, that the Society is offering a $1000 reward for Callista's safe return or the identification of her cat-burglar, "We want her to come back to us so we can vaccinate her and spay her and get her into a good home. A lot of people will be worried about 'if you bring her there, she's going to be euthanized' and all that, that just doesn't happen.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Society at 1-202-576-6664.
