WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A 1950s UFO memo by the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been generating quite a stir.

The one-page memo dating back to March 22, 1950, has been viewed over a million times in the past two years since it was uploaded to the FBI digital vault.

So why all the buzz?

The memo by Guy Hottel, then head of the FBI field office in Washington, D.C., related information from an informant that an Air Force investigator reported that three "flying saucers" were recovered in New Mexico.

The memo read:

Subject: Flying Saucers Information Concerning

"They [the saucers] were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only three feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed fliers and test pilots."

The FBI said on its website on March 25 that although the subject of the memo was not common, they do not believe this proves the existence of UFO's:

"...It is simply a second- or third-hand claim that we never investigated. Some people believe the memo repeats a hoax that was circulating at that time, but the Bureau's files have no information to verify that theory."

But D.C. enthusiasts believe it is only a matter of time before the government confirms the unidentified flying saucers exist.

"It's something you think would be out of a science fiction story but it's a reality," said D.C. resident Wilbur Allen.

Allen says he captures anomalies on his rooftop camera on a daily basis. The enthusiast claims he's had sightings as a child, too.

"The truth of the matter is, we're not alone," Allen said. "I believe that without a doubt."
