  • LEESBURG, Va. (WUSA) -- A great coat fits like a glove and hits you in all the right places, and that includes your wallet.

"Your gonna save more than 65 percent on those coats at most of our stores," says Meghan McConville.

For a look at some designer deals, we traveled south to Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets.

Meghan says, "You're going to see a lot of ruffles, a lot of 3/4 length coats, but you're also getting a lot of the cropped coats."

For example, she points out a bright yellow Ann Taylor coat.  It retails for $168, but you can get it at the outlets with the VIP discount for $120.

Meghan says one leather Calvin Klein coat can handle the cold, but there's more than that to keep in mind.

"You wanna make sure to have it fitted, you know, not so boxy," says Meghan.

A figure hugging coat would normally cost $400.  The Leesburg price? Just $170.  There are some great twists on the traditional black staple.

"We've got these great girlie ruffles," she says.

DKNY's feminine find retails for $400 but with the VIP savings, you can get it for $200.  And, if you prefer something to accentuate your waist, a belted look can't be beat.

"White is really surprisingly versatile," Meghan says.

Or, wake up your wardrobe and make a statement.

"Red is a great color for this season.  You're going to see a lot of red," she says.

These coats are making the rounds in the stores right now, and when it comes to saving money, the price is right.

Tips For Shopping For Outerwear:  Invest in versatility.  A coat that you can wear to work every day, weekends and can be dressed up or down is worth the money you'll spend.

Know your prices.  An educated shopper gets the best deals.  What represents good value differs from person to person.  Saving 25 percent on a current season designer coat is the perfect deal for one person, and saving 65 percent on last season's cashmere coat could be someone's deal of the century.

When shopping for a coat, choose the right amount of warmth.  If you live someplace cold, go for a cashmere or shearling-lined coat.  Wool is another great option.

Don't be afraid to size up.  When you're trying on coats, bring a sweater or blazer with you.  This way, you can be sure the coat will work over layers for cold winter months.

Belted coats are a very flattering look for any woman.  By keeping it tied, you create a shapely look which outlines your figure and hourglass shape.

When you are coat shopping, it's important to go with an open mind.  Not all trends will work for each body type, so don't be afraid to shop around.

And, Meghan says, you can receive an additional 25 to 65 percent off retail prices if you sign up for the VIP Shopper Club at the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets.
