WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA/Consumer World) -- On the surface, it sounds like a great deal. A retailer says it will offer price matching on the items you just gotta have. But these policies can be tricky and limited.

So we sorted through the fine print, with help from the Consumer World website, to give you some of the low down.

TARGET

Target was the first to announce price matching this season. And, according to a new Consumer World survey, it will do that through December 24th, for anything you bought on November 1st or after.

But it excludes any percent off/dollar off sales, anything bought with a coupon, in limited quantity or a deal of the day.

BEST BUY

Best Buy will match prices for about 30 days after your purchase. But what you buy on Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday won't be included. That includes online purchases, plus any clearance, limited quantity or deal of the day item.

HOME DEPOT

Home Depot will only match prices right at the time of purchase. After the purchase, it's up to the store to decide. Special orders and internet buys don't qualify.

TOYS R US

And Toys R Us will match toy prices at the time you buy, or up to 7 days after that date. It excludes percent off, doorbuster, limited quantity items - and nothing will be matched on Black Friday.

These are just some of the key exclusions and limitations to store policies. Click here to read a more complete summation of the policies for these stores and others.
