WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)-- The Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure announced the Vice President and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden will serve as Honorary Co-Chairs for this year's Global Race For The Cure. The race takes place Saturday June 6th on the National Mall.
Dr. Biden is a long time breast cancer advocate and touched personally by breast cancer, with four of her friends diagnosed with the disease. Their diagnosis helped her start Biden Breast Health Initiative. In the past 15 years this initiative has educated more than 10,000 ninth-through-twelfth-grade girls in Delaware about proper breast health.
"My husband Joe and I are thrilled to participate in the ongoing effort to raise awareness, fund research and empower people throughout the world in the fight against breast cancer." said Dr. Biden.
Other notable people participating in the race ceremonies are HRH Crown Prince Alexander II and HRH Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia, Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, founder of Susan G. Komen For The Cure, Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, actress Sarah Chalke, CBS's anchor Maggie Rodriguez, and singers Candy Coburn and Lalah Hathaway. Also participating WUSA 9 NEWS NOW's anchor Andrea Roane.
This is the first year for the Global Race For The Cure and to celebrate opening ceremonies will honor 21 global survivors representing 18 countries.
