LAUREL, Md. (WUSA) -- Laurel, Maryland is one of the areas spared the worst of the storm, but there were still homes crushed by falling trees and overflowing sewage issues.

Nick Monacelli checked in on one family of six, who weathered the storm at home.

"It's a little stressful. This is the only block on our street without power, so hopefully it will be back on soon," said Bob Maher.

Over the next few days we'll be dealing with floods, power outages and lots of clean-up. The silver lining is that not all us have four kids stuck in a house with next-to-nothing to do.

Maher shared, "It's real nervewracking now. The kids are not behaving. This is our only source of heat."

Fortunately, the water stopped pouring into the Maher's basement early in the morning. But that's about the only good news they have.

Fifteen-year-old Casey has found tranquility in "Transformers." The DVD player is the only thing without a dead battery, leaving only what kids know best: tormenting each other, the fish and the cameraman.

So on this second day of Sandy, Maher family, all we can offer is good luck. I'll be in my hotel room.
