FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA) -- Frederick County's Commissioners are seeking state approval to charge residents for trash pick up based on how much they throw away.
"Why should I pay the same as someone else who throws away twice as much?" asks Ellis Burruss of Brunswick who serves on the county's Solid Waste Advisory Council.
"Most of the residents of Frederick County would find as consumers that they would save money with this program," says Jan Gardner, the President of the County Commission, noting that the county's recycling pick-up is free.
Frederick County began providing county wide curbside recycling service a year ago.
Supporters of "pay as you throw" trash pick up predict the recycling rate will skyrocket as a result.
