Lancelot Quarshie died after a fire in Maryland; leaving 40 displaced

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA9) -- Firefighters responded to a 2-alarm fire in Maryland on Wednesday which left a 4-year-old child dead.

Officials have identified the 4-year-old child, Lancelot Quarshie from Montgomery Village, Maryland. 

Several residents were taken to local hospitals after the fire which started shortly after 4:00 p.m. at the Cider Mill Apartments located at the 18200 block of Lost Knife Circle in Montgomery Village, Md. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke from the second floor of the three-story apartment building.

An adult male was taken to a local specialty center with life-threatening injuries. Another adult male and two children were taken to a hospital as well. 

It took over 80 firefighters to put out the fire.

Forty people were displaced and 12 units were affected by the fire. 

Initial investigation damage estimates are $750,000 to the structure and $300,000 to contents.  

The fire appears to have started in a kitchen area. This incident is still under investigation.
