WASHINGTON (WUSA 9) -- Fire fighters are being stationed in DC's Trinidad neighborhood to combat crime, but residents and fire fighters question the effectiveness of the city's efforts.

"You never know when it's going to hit right here in the heart of Trinidad," said resident Bernadette King. "The fire department is not going to do us no good."

The DC Fire Fighters Association says their men and women are not trained to fight crime and putting them in the middle of a potential crime scene would not be safe for anyone.

They also note that keeping a manned truck here could slow down their response times to fires. Fire fighters say they agree that this area needs help dealing with crime, but believe that help should come in the form of those who are trained to do something about it.

"We can't even walk to the store, we can't even go to our mailbox ... Do you think the fire department can do anything about all that stuff, about crime - the fire department? The fire department?" asked King.
