Police looking for dog that bit person this weekend

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Alexandria police and Alexandria Animal Welfare League staff are searching for a dog that bit a  resident on Sunday. They want to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident or know anything about the dog or its owner.

According to police, at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of N. Latham Street the female saw the dog outside that appeared to be limping and in need of help. Police say as she attempted to offer it food, the dog bit her, causing serious injury.

The dog is described as a medium-sized dog, similar in appearance to a Collie, with brown, black and white fur, say police. The dog appeared thin with matted hair and was walking with a limp. The dog was last seen in the 300 block of N. Latham Street.

Anyone with information is asked to call the city's non-emergency number at 703-746-4444.  Do NOT approach or attempt to catch the dog.
