Wheaton High School groundbreaking ceremony held

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County Public Schools community leaders gathered Wednesday morning to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Wheaton High School.

The revitalization/expansion project will replace the current school, which was built in 1954, and will increase the school's capacity by more than 250 students. 

Those who attended the event included Christopher S. Barclay, President of the Montgomery County Board of Education, Joshua P. Starr, Superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools, Isiah Leggett, Montgomery County Executive, Nancy Navarro, President of the Montgomery County Council, Valerie Ervin, member of the Montgomery County Council, and Bennie Green, Principal of Wheaton High School.

The new Wheaton High School is expected to open in August 2015.
