WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A big vote in Northeast DC has forever change the political landscape for Dc cab drivers.
Investigative Reporter Russ Ptacek was at Teamsters hall where cabbies are organizing a facedown with the District.
If you had trouble getting a can over the past couple hours, this is why. In a video, you can see hundreds of DC cabs jammed into the teamsters parking lot - overflowing and double parked on surrounding DC streets.
Brought here by mounting frustration and costs associated with the districts required modernization, like new dome lights, credit card readers, and standardized paint jobs.
An overflow crowd of about a thousand shouted and cheered at the new association that DC's Taxi Commission had been stone deaf to the reality and costs born by drivers.
"Together we will fight for justice. Together we will fight to make sure your rights are defended. Together we will win," they chanted.
Drivers voted to form the association and to be represented by teamsters.
