PASADENA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police say a man suspected of DWI crashed his car into a guardrail, and then led officers on a chase before he was apprehended in woods on Wednesday.

According to police, at approximately 10:22 p.m. an Anne Arundel County police officer was traveling southbound on I-97 near Dorsey Road when the officer saw a dark-colored vehicle speed past him with no lights on. While taking the ramp onto Route 100 East, the car struck the guardrail and spun out of control, say police. As the officer approached, the vehicle pulled away from the accident.

Police say the officer then turned on his lights and sirens, and the vehicle sped up. It continued east on Route 100, according to police.

Police say the driver was speeding, crossing lanes and was followed due to suspicion of DWI.  Officers followed the vehicle at Route 2 and Earleigh Heights, then the vehicle went back onto Route 100 West, eventually pulling over on Route 100 at the split to Route 10. Police tell us that's when the driver fled from the vehicle and into the woods.

According to police, when the driver, 29-year-old Steven Plummer of Pasadena, was caught in the woods he smelled of alcohol.  They also say "CDS paraphernalia" was found in his vehicle.

Plummer charged with numerous traffic and criminal violations, say police.
