LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (WUSA9/AP) -- Authorities say Jacqueline Badger Mars, co-owner of the multi-billion dollar Mars candy company, was involved in a fatal car crash.

The accident happened on Friday, October 4, at around 2:30 p.m.  According to the Associated Press the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office says Mars was driving a Porsche SUV in Aldie, Virginia when it crossed the center line and hit a minivan.  The sheriff's office says a passenger in the minivan,  86-year-old Irene Ellisor of Huntsville, Texas, died at the scene.  According to authorities Ellisor was not wearing a seatbelt.

In a written statement, Mars' spokesperson Kent Jarrell said, "This tragedy has left Jacquie filled with sorrow for the loss of life and those who were injured in the accident. She would like to express her deepest condolences to the families involved."

Jarrell says Mars was hospitalized for her injuries and is now at home.

The Commonwealth's Attorney is reviewing the accident.
