Joshua Matthew Aguilar arrested for bringing gun and knife to school

DUMFRIES, Va. (WUSA9) -- An 18-year-old student has been arrested for bringing a handgun and knife to a school in Dumfries.

At 11:59 a.m. Thursday, police say Pope John Paul the Great High School staff reported that a student brought a handgun to school. The student reportedly showed the handgun to another student who then told staff.

Eighteen-year-old Joshua Matthew Aguilar was detained by school staff and the gun was confiscated before officers arrived, say police. Police say they later found that Aguilar also had a knife.

Aguilar was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and possession of a weapon [knife] on school property. He is being held without bond, say police.
