Alexandria officer cleared in shooting death of Taft Sellers

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A police officer was cleared on Wednesday, for using deadly force in a February shooting investigation. 

Taft Sellers, 30, of Alexandria, was shot and killed by an officer on February 18, after the officer showed up to the scene and saw Sellers with a weapon, police said. 

The officer was immediately put on leave and investigated for the shooting. 

The officer was cleared by the Commonwealth's Attorney, Randy Sengel in July. 

Alexandria Police ended their investigation on Wednesday.

"An internal investigation determined that the officers' use of lethal force to be reasonable and in compliance with Alexandria Police Department Policy and is consistent with Police Department training. Alexandria Police Department policy allows the use of lethal force when, "an employee reasonably believes that the action is in the defense of human life, including the employee's own life, or in the defense of any person in imminent danger of serious physical injury,"" police said in a news release.
