Cornell Boat, charged with robbery, credit card theft, and credit card fraud

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man has been arrested for stealing a purse out of a car with another man sleeping inside the vehicle, say police.

Police say on Thursday at approximately 7 a.m., a man reported that he was asleep in a car in the 14000 block of Jefferson Davis Highway in Woodbridge when he awoke and saw a man trying to steal his mother's purse. The thief was reaching into the backseat when the man awoke. When the thief saw the man was awake, he threated the man and implied he had a weapon, according to police.

The thief then took the purse and fled the area in a vehicle. The man  followed the thief to the area of Walnut Street and then called police, say police.

Police tell us trash collectors later found the stolen purse in the area of Cottonwood Court and called police.

Police later found the suspect and his vehicle in the area of Ironwood Street. Police say 23-year-old Cornell Bill Boat of Laurel, Md. used a credit card from the stolen purse to withdraw money from an ATM. 

Boat is charged with robbery, credit card theft, and credit card fraud, say police. He is being held without bond.
