TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Takoma Park Police say a suspect was taken into custody after he and another man fled police in a stolen vehicle then crashed it.

According to police, on Wednesday at 2:05 a.m. an officer tried to make a traffic stop in the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue. The car took off westbound on Kingwood Avenue and then hit the traffic circle on Kingwood and Wildwood, say police. The impact caused the car to go airborne and it traveled through the front yards of some homes in the 1100 block of Kingwood Avenue, according to police. It then struck vehicles and a tree before spinning, then coming to a rest between to homes.

Two men wearing dark clothing were spotted fleeing from the vehicle, say police. That car was later determined to be stolen.

With the use of a helicopter and K9 units, officers tracked 23-year-old Alex Enrique Galarza into Becca Lilly Park, say police. Galarza was found on a deer path approximately 500 feet into the tree line, according to police, and taken into custody.

Police say Galarza was injured in the crash so he was taken to a hospital for treatment. Once he was cleared for confinement, he was taken to jail. He has been charged with  auto theft, theft over $1,000, fleeing and eluding police, possession with the intent to distribute controlled dangerous substance (CDS) marijuana, possession of CDS paraphernalia, malicious destruction of property, possession of a dangerous weapon (brass knuckles) and numerous other traffic violation offenses.

According to police, no one else was injured, but there was "extensive property damage."

Police are still looking for the second suspect.
