WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- D.C. Police have identified a man who was stabbed to death in Rock Creek Park. Police say the body of 49-year-old Matias Molina of Northwest DC was found Monday night near the intersection of Beach Drive and Joyce Road.

Detectives say they identified him using fingerprints.

He had been an employee of Clydes in Chevy Chase for 6 years.

Detectives also say that based on his clothing he did not appear to be a jogger, cyclist, or someone working out in Rock Creek Park.

Cadets from the D.C. Police Academy spent Tuesday morning searching the crime scene for any evidence that might have been missed the night before. It was around 8:00 p.m. on Labor Day when someone passing through the park found the body of an adult man and called police.

"He was lying near the creek bed. That's all the detail I can provide at this time," said Acting Capt. Robert Alder.

Police say the man had been stabbed multiple times. They tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We have not had any other homicide in that area since the Chandra Levy case," said Capt. Alder.

It's a troubling statistic for the runners and cyclists who use that stretch of Rock Creek Park on a routine basis.

"I bike through here are the time every day and I'm a little concerned... lots of times I come from home going down this way and I see people running and walking in the dark in the park.  It's jut not safe," said one cyclist.

Police are releasing few details about this case. They won't comment about the murder weapon or a possible motive. People here just hope they catch the person responsible before he or she can hurt anyone else.

U.S. Park Police say they believe that section of Rock Creek Park is still very safe. But detectives haven't said anything about a suspect.
