ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Democrat Terry McAuliffe has used a forum on energy to attack his Republican rival for Virginia governor's positions on family law and other social issues.
McAuliffe held up a copy of an article in The Washington Post that detailed Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's ties to fathers' rights advocates, who believe men are treated unfairly in divorce and custody cases.
McAuliffe says, "We cannot move Virginia forward by holding women back."
He made his comments Thursday morning at a forum sponsored by the Consumer Energy Alliance. On energy issues, McAuliffe said he is not anti-coal, as some Republicans have charged. He says he wants to create new jobs in the coal industry using technologies that mitigate the environmental damage.
McAuliffe spoke first and there was no immediate response from Cuccinelli.
