WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- These days our politics are dysfunctional and some would argue our day to day human relations are almost as bad, with a lot more nastiness and distrust than even seemed possible in more innocent times.

Here's my question, folks. Do you think it would help if we just showed each other a little more grace? You heard me, Grace. I'm not talking about the divine but rather the grace that has to do with how we treat each other. As in occasionally giving the other person the benefit of the doubt especially when they say something that you don't like. Instead of going on line to demand they be fired and run out of town.  Grace means sometimes offering forgiveness without even being asked or understanding that the person who doesn't look like you or disagrees with you really isn't that different from you.

Just another human being, struggling, sometimes making mistakes. Just. Like. You.  Grace.

They tell me it's a necessity for happily married couples but couldn't it just as easily apply to that guy at work whose politics you despise or that lady upstairs whose just so damn loud.

My dad always said, if it was easy everybody would do it. Just the same if you've become as disenchanted with the polarization and demonization as I have, next time you're tempted to lash out at someone, you might think to yourself; isn't there a more graceful way of handling this?

And Who knows? You just might think of one.
