(WUSA9) -- We're getting the secrets of success from a woman who owns a business which celebrates what some might consider a dying art.
Heidi Kallett started The Dandelion Patch, a fine stationary business, in 2005. It has thrived in a world of texts, e-vites and twitter.
Kallett owns 3 stores and credits her success to being able to change with the market without compromising.
She told us about the beginning fo the business. "I started actually because I was president of the Junior League, which is a women's charity. I wrote to all of my volunteers, and in the process of writing all those letters, I realized that i was going to the same stationary store buying the same boxed stationary that wasn't reflective of my personality. That was the impetus for me for wanting to have a business.
"I filled my store, brand new, very first store full of boxed stationary and realized, 'wow it's going to be hard to pay rent on a $20 box of stationary.' So we've morphed and we still have lovely boxed stationary but we recognized the milestone events like weddings and births and retirement parties. So we've actually been successful because we've been able to change with the climate and the needs of our customer and growing base of loyal fans."
