Eden Prairie, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier has decided to start Josh Freeman at quarterback for Monday's game against the New York Giants.

Freeman joined the team just last week after signing as a free agent following his departure from Tampa Bay earlier this month.

"He has adapted to our system," said Frazier on Wednesday. "I like his work ethic. He has done enough for us to say that he is ready."

The Vikings will have their third different starting quarterback this season. Christian Ponder started the first three games -- all losses -- and suffered a rib injury in the Week 3 loss to Cleveland. Matt Cassel then opened the next two games under center and guided the Vikings to their lone win of the season in England against Pittsburgh, but was not as successful in last week's 35-10 loss to Carolina.

Enter Freeman, a 2009 first-round pick who had his share of ups and downs with the Buccaneers.

The Kansas State product began this season as the Tampa Bay starter, but struggled in the club's first three games. He completed just 45.7 percent of his passes for 571 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions before being benched in favor of rookie Mike Glennon.

Freeman's release in early October came one day after Sports Illustrated reported that he had been fined twice by the Buccaneers in the past month for conduct detrimental to the team. One was for an unauthorized interview with ESPN and the other for skipping at least one team meeting.

The 25-year-old signal-caller compiled a 24-35 record over his four-plus seasons as Tampa Bay's starter, throwing for 13,534 yards and 80 touchdowns with 66 interceptions since being drafted 17th overall back in 2009.

Ponder, a 2011 first-round pick, has completed 59-of-100 passes for 691 yards with two touchdowns and five picks this year.

Cassel, who joined the Vikings in March after four seasons with Kansas City, has connected on 48-of-69 throws for 489 yards with three scores and two interceptions in his two starts.
