CULPEPER, Va. (WUSA9) -- Culpeper police hope the public will have information about a home invasion in which an 86-year-old man was beaten and robbed. Culpeper Crime Solvers are offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of this crime.
The crime happened nearly two years ago, on Oct. 21, 2011. Police say the 86-year-old man lived in the 400 block of Macoy, and greeted two men who knocked on his door about 9 p.m. The men then allegedly assaulted the man and forced their way into the home, according to police. They rummaged through the house.
Police tell us that the man still suffers from the injuries received in the vicious attack. After the attack he was taken to Culpeper Regional Hospital and then to the University of Virginia Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries. He is undergoing rehabilitation, say police.
Police have asked previously for help identifying the two men responsible for the attack but haven't had enough information to make an arrest, they say.
One of the two suspects is described as a white male, in his 20s. He is about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches tall, say police. The second man was wearing a hooded sweatshirt.
