MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police are investigating after a woman was shot during her child's soccer game on Sunday evening.
According to police, a Gainesville woman was sitting in a chair watching the game at George Hellwig Memorial Park on Bristow Road in Manassas when she felt a sharp pain to her right thigh. She told police that she though she was struck with a BB or other type projectile.
When the woman was taken to the hospital, it was discovered that she was actually struck with a small caliber bullet, possibly a .22 round, say police. Her injury is non life-threatening.
Police say no one they talked to heard a gunshot or saw a weapon at the game.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
