(WUSA9) -- A Howard County police officer and another driver were injured in a car crash on Friday morning at approximately 5:39 a.m., according to police officials.

Officials say a marked police cruiser with its emergency equipment activated was traveling southbound on St. Johns Lane attempting to cross Baltimore National Pike. That is when a 2006 Hyundai Tucson traveling eastbound on Baltimore National Pike and struck the cruiser, according to officials.

Pfc. Quintin Singo, a 5-year veteran of the Howard County Police Department, was transported to Howard County General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say he has since been released.

Police tell us the driver of the Hyundai, James Carl Thompson Sr., 60, of Owings Mills, Md., was also transported to Howard County General Hospital. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition.

Eastbound Baltimore National Pike was closed for approximately two hours for the investigation. Police say a traffic light was damaged at the intersection so police officers are there directing traffic.
