BADEN, Md. (WUSA9) -- There is now a second mystery to solve in the wake of a heating oil theft at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Baden.
"Who it was, I have no idea, but God bless 'em," said Father Tom Gude, the priest at St. Michael's after an anonymous donor refilled heating oil tanks drained by thieves.
Thanksgiving night, thieves made off with an estimated 750 gallons of fuel oil from above ground tanks hidden behind the church on Aquasco Rd. in Baden. The theft left the small, rural church cold, and forced the cancellation of some activities last week.
Father Gude began planning to take a special collection, but before he could pass the plates Sunday, he discovered Thursday that an anonymous donor had re-filled the tanks without being seen or leaving any word.
Police say it appears to be a donation, and not a return of the fuel that was originally stolen.
Investigators believe the thieves are well organized and professional.
"They know exactly what they're doing and they have the specialized equipment to commit the crime, said acting Capt. Melvin Powell of the Prince George's County Police
