EDGEWATER, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man posing as an undercover police officer asking for money was caught after a suspicious victim called it in.

Dagineaux Monroe Thomas, 43, of 4063 Muddy Creek Road, Harwood, Md., was arrested Wednesday and charged with impersonating a police officer.

Anne Arundel County police say officers arrived at a Shell Service Station located in the 3000 block of Solomons Island Road in Edgewater, Md. for the report of a man with a gun.

Upon arrival, officers observed a suspect who match the description, searched him, and found no weapon, police said. Officers then spoke with the 30-year-old male victim, who said the suspect told him he was an undercover police officer.

The suspect lifted his coat and displayed what the victim thought was the handle of a handgun, police say. The suspect asked for money and indicated he was on a sting operation.

The victim did not give the suspect any money and walked away.
